Making the battery on your iPhone 6 Plus or iPhone 6 last longer might not be your number one priority, but when it comes to older devices like the iPhone 5s it is essential if you want your phone to last until you get home from work.

Here's how you can stretch the battery life of your iPhone.

If you're running iOS 8 on your iPhone, then you are in luck as the operating system allows you to check which apps are consuming the most power. To do this, click Settings, navigate to the General tab > Usage > Battery Usage where you can see the number of apps that are currently running. Close the unnecessary ones.

There is no battery usage feature in iOS 7, but you can begin saving battery life by turning off Google Maps, Facebook, Twitter and camera apps which drain your battery. You can also stop Background App Refresh by navigating to Settings> General and clicking on the tab.

Power cycling your battery once a month is a good idea. To do this you need to just allow the battery to run out completely and then charge it back up to 100 percent.

Turning off auto brightness is also another tip you can employ to ensure you iPhone is able to last at least 10 hours. This will stop the device from constantly checking and adjusting the screen brightness.

Disabling locations services for Google Maps and other apps and only enabling them when needed is also a big help, as is the shutting down of notification widgets.

The moving wallpaper feature is a big favorite with many users of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but it is also a major source of power drain. It can be turned off by navigating to Settings > General > Accessibility > Reduce Motion.

Finally, setting your iPhone to constantly check for emails is a bad idea as it drains battery life. You can turn it off so that your phone only checks when the app is in use.
