Oscar-nominated film director Morten Tyldum has been tapped to direct an episode of Amazon's straight-to-series drama titled "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan."

According to Deadline, Tyldum, known for his works in films such as "The Imitation Game" and "Passengers," will be directing the premiere episode of the upcoming Tom Clancy adaptation. After the pilot episode, Dan Sackheim ("The Americans") will be serving as the series' director for multiple episodes apart from being its producer.

"Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan" is reportedly a reinvention with a modern sensibility of the famous fictional character created by Clancy. The series centers on Jack Ryan, portrayed by actor John Krasinski, an up-and-coming CIA analyst assigned to a dangerous field assignment for the very first time. Ryan finds himself uncovering a pattern in terrorist communication, which puts him at risk and at the center of a war against a new kind of terrorism that threatens the world.

As reported by Screen Crush, the cast includes Abbie Cornish as Cathy Mueller, a doctor specializing in infectious diseases and Ryan's love interest, as well Wendell Pierce as Ryan's boss, James Greer, a successful cases officer working in the CIA Directorate of Operations.

"Jack Ryan" is co-produced by Paramount TV and Skydance TV. Carlton Cuse serves as one of its executive producers, along with writer Graham Roland, Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, Andrew Form, Skydance's David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Marcy Ross. Movie franchise's producer Mace Neufeld and Carlton Cure Prod's Lindsey Springer are also producers of the series.

In the past, Ryan has been portrayed by notable Hollywood actors such as Alec Baldwin in "The Hunt for Red October (1990), Harrison Ford in "Patriot Games" (1992) and "Clear and Present Danger" (1994), as well as Ben Affleck in "The Sum of All Fears" (2002). Most recently, "Star Trek" star Chris Pine portrayed Ryan's character in the 2013 film "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit."
