'Jason Bourne' 5 news: Matt Damon is 'fine' with being replaced by a younger Bourne
"Bourne" franchise star Matt Damon isn't worried about a younger actor taking over the role of the titular spy.
The actor, who stars in the upcoming "Jason Bourne" for the fourth time in the film series, said that he is "totally fine" with being replaced when the film inevitably gets rebooted somewhere down the road.
During a promotional tour for "Jason Bourne" in Seoul, South Korea, Damon spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the challenges of starring in the fifth installment in the "Bourne" franchise and about the possibility of someday being replaced by a different (and much younger) actor.
While the 45-year-old Hollywood star can still pull off the physically demanding stunts he had to do for the upcoming film, he acknowledged that there will come a time when he will be too old to run as fast or punch as hard as the role of Jason Bourne requires.
When that day comes, perhaps when Damon is in his 50s or 60s, the franchise could turn to a younger actor to take over the challenging role. But though fans may be disappointed or feel sorry for Damon, the actor assured everyone that he is cool with a new Bourne taking over.
Speaking with THR, Damon said that he is "definitely going to be replaced some day by some new young Jason Bourne."
"That happens to everybody and they reboot these things, and that's totally fine," he added.
The actor also admitted that it has already been quite difficult performing the action sequences in "Jason Bourne" at his age.
"It's difficult when you're 45 compared to when you're 29, but you still have to run as fast as you can," he said.
Meanwhile, in an interview for the August issue of GQ Australia, Damon once again compared Jason Bourne to James Bond, saying, as quoted by E! News: "Jason Bourne is a serial monogamist. And he's tortured by the things he's done and feels empathy and compassion for other people... And Bourne would obviously win in a fight."
According to the outlet, the actor has been sharing his opinions about the two characters since 2007 and has previously slammed Bond for his treatment of women.
"Jason Bourne" hits theaters July 29.
