Jeremy Lin news: Carmelo Anthony talks about Jeremy Lin as the face of Nets
New York Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony was reportedly surprised that the Brooklyn Nets have made his former teammate Jeremy Lin the face of the team.
For the uninitiated, Lin played for the Knicks from 2011 to 2012. Recently, he signed a $36-million contract with the Nets which will last for three years.
Via The New York Post, Anthony seemed a bit surprised about the franchise's decision to put his former teammate in the spotlight. But the basketball player seemed genuinely happy for Lin's current situation.
"He is the face of their franchise – believe it or not,'' Anthony said. "He came up, they paid him. Now the ball is in his hands. Now he's one of the franchise players over there. I don't know what you want me to say about that. I'm happy for him, excited for him to see how it's going to turn out over there,'' Anthony added.
When asked about why Lin left the Knicks, Anthony stated, "That was five, six years ago, bro,'' before adding, "I forgot about that.''
Lin and the Nets made a good first impression in their game against the Detroit Pistons last Thursday. The Nets won the game, leading 101-94 in the pre-season match.
The team had a terrible 2015-2016 season as they only won 21-61 games. But under head coach Kenny Atkinson and new general manager Sean Marks, the team showed a more aggressive defense and a more active offense. Their play resulted in 24 turnovers which led to 29 points.
"It was really cool,'' said Lin to The New York Post. "We train, we work out for months and months to be able to play in a real jersey against somebody else. We're so sick of playing each other, so it was fun, a lot of fun," he added.
Lin scored 21 points in 17 minutes. He scored seven out of 11 from the floor, while he scored 5 out of 8 from the three-point mark.
