Jeremy Lin news: Opens up about not being recognized by NBA security staff
Despite having played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for six years and counting, former Charlotte Hornets point guard Jeremy Lin is still being asked for his credentials by NBA security staff.
Lin, who will don the Brooklyn Nets jersey next season, revealed this during an interview with New York Post, adding that it has happened a lot of times enough for him to get used to it.
"I still get stopped when I try to go through away arenas and stuff, and I'm walking with my teammates, and obviously none of them are Asian but I'm the only one that gets stopped," and they ask for my credentials, stuff like that," Lin revealed.
He added that they still ask him if he is part of the team and request his credentials for proof. "But I really don't let it affect me... I'm so used to it now. It doesn't bother me," he said.
Lin admitted that he still experiences racism, although he chooses to just "shake it off" and not be bothered by it. He also admitted that people throw "really racist things" at him in social media as well, but he has learned not to let these things get into his head.
Following the NBA draft, the 27-year-old will bring his talents to the Brooklyn Nets in the next season of NBA. Although fans expect the "recreation of Linsanity," he sees this move (he played for the Charlotte Hornets this season) as the "next chapter" of his career in the NBA.
"That's all I'm gonna focus on. If people want to call it whatever they want to call it, they can go ahead and do that, but I've kind of set out to see how good I can become and see how good I can make this team," he explained.
