'Jessica Jones' season 2 spoilers news: Showrunner on Trish's Hellcat transformation; Mike Colter on Jessica–Luke relationship
While Marvel TV and Netflix have yet to announce the official release date of "Jessica Jones" season 2, creator and showrunner Melissa Rosenberg has confirmed that the "Jessica Jones" team is currently hard at work writing the upcoming season.
In a recent interview with IGN, Rosenberg revealed some major details about the highly anticipated season 2, including a possible Hellcat appearance and the team's plans for the show's new main villain.
While the identity of the villain for the second season remains tightly under wraps, Rosenberg spoke about the possibility of having a threat similar to the previous season's Kilgrave (David Tennant).
"We'll never create that again," she said. "That is one of the great iconic characters played by a profoundly talented actor. The objective is not to match that, not to try to do that again."
Earlier this year, Rosenberg spoke about training the spotlight on the show's supporting characters to give the audience a deeper insight into each. Does this mean that the upcoming season could have Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor), Jessica's (Krysten Ritter) best friend and adoptive sister, discover her own superhero identity, i.e. Hellcat?
In her chat with IGN, Rosenberg admitted that there is always a possibility of Hellcat coming to "Jessica Jones" but added that the character of Trish is already rich, whether or not she picks up her Hellcat identity.
"What's most interesting to me is their relationship," the "Jessica Jones" boss explained. "You know, that friendship, that sisterhood. That's the core of the show. That's the core relationship of the show."
Meanwhile, Luke Cage's Mike Colter recently spoke about the possibility of Jessica and Luke Cage, his character, moving forward with their relationship in "Jessica Jones" season 2.
In season 1, Jessica and Luke, who is spinning off into his own Netflix series, had a brief but very intimate fling before it was revealed that Jessica, under the control of Kilgrave, had murdered Luke's wife.
Speaking to Digital Spy at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour last week, Colter expressed hope for the pair, saying, "My instincts tell me that he is not completely over her."
"But how do you continue a relationship with someone who's responsible for the death of your wife?" he added.
While "Jessica Jones" season 2 is currently without an official release date, the first season of "Luke Cage" is set to premiere on Sept. 30 on Netflix.
