'Jessica Jones' season 2 release date, cast, plot news: What's next for the titular character?
"Jessica Jones" fans will be in for a long wait because season 2 of the show will be airing in 2018. The long wait, however, may be worth it, given that showrunner Melissa Rosenberg has revealed about what is awaiting the superhero.
While Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) may have defeated her arch-nemesis and tormentor, Kilgrave (David Tennant), she will still be suffering from the trauma he brought upon her, and season 2 will explore this further. "She was kind of messed up even before Kilgrave came along, and so in Season Two we can explore what's possible for her moving forward," Rosenberg told Esquire. She said the trauma that the character experienced, which includes rape and mind control, cannot be overcome overnight. Part of the reason for Jessica's continued existence is the possibility of escaping from or defeating the Purple Man. With that done, she will need to find another reason to go on.
Season 2 will also explore Jessica's relationship with Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor), her best friend and adoptive sister. Rosenberg described this as the core of the show in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. She said that she was aware that some fans are pushing for season 2 to feature a romantic connection between the two, although she clarified that she personally was not interested in that aspect, as she was more curious about exploring the trust and connection between the two characters.
With Kilgrave dead, who will be the antagonist for season 2? Rosenberg said in the EW interview that she could not reveal the news, only that it is possible for Jessica Jones to face more than one villain when the show comes back. Aside from David Tennant, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) will not be returning as a series regular, given that he has his own "Luke Cage" series.
Season 2 of "Jessica Jones" will have 13 episodes. It will once again air on Netflix on 2018.
