'Jessica Jones' season 2 spoilers, plot news: Trish will emerge as Hellcat?
"Jessica Jones" season 2 will pull the spotlight back slightly from its titular superheroine (Krysten Ritter) and train it on the show's secondary characters, allowing fans to see each person evolve.
As such, could Trish Walker's (Rachael Taylor) storyline find her taking on the mantle of Hellcat?
In the Marvel Comics, Hellcat is a superheroine with the power to sense mystical phenomena and deflect mystical attacks. She is a martial arts expert whose black-and-yellow costume includes retractable claws.
In the first season of "Jessica Jones," Trish did not assume her superhero alter-ego. She didn't have powers of her own, either. The show's freshman season did, however, find her studying Krav Maga and holding her own against Will Simpson (Wil Traval).
Trish, who is Jessica's foster sister and best friend, has also expressed an interest in saving the world. All of these seem to point at Jessica's sidekick coming into her own as the superheroine Hellcat and fighting crime alongside the titular heroine in season 2.
In an interview with Comic Book Resources earlier this year, Taylor spoke about what's next for Trish, saying that her character doesn't believe that Jessica is using enough of her superpowers to defeat the bad guys.
"I think Trish is very much an alpha personality type," she said. "I think she's a very ambitious woman. And I think probably, if she had the same superhero powers that Jessica had, she thinks that she would probably do a lot more with them."
Speaking with Deadline in 2015, "Jessica Jones" showrunner and executive producer Melissa Rosenberg spoke about taking Trish in new directions.
"[Trish] is one of the characters that I'm looking forward to exploring, and pushing to new territory, and the world is our oyster on that one," she said. "We can go anywhere we want with it and there's a lot of mythology behind her."
Netflix has yet to announce an official release date for "Jessica Jones" season 2.
