'Jumanji 2' news: First trailer to debut at Cinema Con
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson revealed that the first trailer for the "Jumanji 2" film will air at Cinema Con, which will be held from March 27 to March 30.
He made this announcement on his Instagram account. In that same post, he also announced that the film will have holiday release this year.
Johnson seems to love using this social media account of his to make announcements about his film projects. In a post last year, he announced his transition from working on the new "Fast & Furious" film to shooting the "Jumanji 2" movie. He also said in the same post that the new movie will not be a reboot of the first film. Instead, it will be a continuation of the story introduced there, which showed a board game transporting the characters — and the neighborhood they are in — to exotic locations and situations.
Johnson also said in another post that "Jumanji 2" will be a tribute to Robin Williams, who starred in the first film, along with Kirsten Dunst, Bradley Pierce, Bonnie Hunt, Jonathan Hyde, Bebe Neuwirth, Patricia Clarkson, and David Alan Grier.
"You have my word, we will honor his name and the character of 'Alan Parrish' will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of JUMANJI in an earnest and cool way," he said in his post.
"Jumanji 2" is about four teenagers stumbling upon the "Jumanji 2" board game, which transports them to a world where they have their own avatars. They will be tasked with finding a jewel in that alternate world.
The real-world teens will be played by Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Ser'Darius Blain, and Morgan Turner, while their "Jumanji" avatars will be played by Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan. Former teen pop star Nick Jonas is also set to appear in the film.
