'Jurassic World 2' release date, casting news: 'The Get Down' star Justice Smith joins cast
A few days ago, producer Frank Marshall strongly hinted that B.D. Wong may come back to reprise his role as Dr. Henry Wu in "Jurassic World 2." A month ago, "Captain America" star Toby Jones and "Prometheus" actor Rafe Spall were also cast to play unspecified roles in the sequel. As expected, they aren't done with filming yet because the film just added another talented actor to its ever-growing cast.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Justice Smith is going to be the latest addition to "Jurassic World 2," but don't expect him to stand behind a turntable with his afro hairstyle when dinosaurs are lurking about.
Smith played the lead character in "The Get Down," Baz Luhrmann's musical drama series set in South Bronx in the '70s, and he also acted in "Paper Towns," the film adaptation of John Green's young adult novel of the same name. Smith's role in "Jurassic World 2" is yet to be revealed.
Meanwhile, executive producer/writer Colin Trevorrow just hinted that Bryce Dallas Howard's character, Claire, won't be wearing high heels this time around.
That wasn't very subtle at all? Well, Trevorrow clearly has a sense of humor. It's actually quite funny that people tend to associate "Jurassic World" with high heels. Critics pointed out that running around in high heels just isn't realistic at all, and Howard was genuinely surprised after hearing all the backlash. Well, at least fans know that Claire will have some comfortable shoes to wear in "Jurassic World 2." No more high heels.
Besides Howard, Chris Pratt will also return to play velociraptor whisperer Owen Grady. Juan Antonio Bayona will be helming the sequel after Trevorrow decided to step down as the director because of his other projects. Trevorrow is co-writing the script with Derek Connolly, and the two of them are also working on "Star Wars: Episode IX."
"Jurassic World 2" is scheduled to premiere on June 22, 2018.
