Kanye West and Paul McCartney 'Only One' Song Sparks Outrage as West Fans Call Beatles Singer An Unknown Artist
"Only One," the new song by Kanye West and Paul McCartney which is getting great reviews from critics and praise from fans, has kicked off a controversy on Twitter. On the micro blogging site several of West's fans stated in their tweets that McCartney "could soon become a major star" after collaborating with West on the song.
While their apparent ignorance of McCartney's career and his role in "The Beatles" was viewed by many people as a joke, others were enraged by the numerous tweets that inferred that McCartney was an unknown artist whose talent could only be revealed through his collaboration with West.
Many news sites said it was inconceivable that hip hop fans did not know McCartney, adding that they were probably just joking on Twitter. However, the number of tweets praising West for working with a "newcomer" incensed other Twitter users who stated that "there was no reason for their stupidity in the age of Google."
Other Twitter users such @AliMaadelat , stated that they were "Losing hope in humanity by the minute. Retweet if you know who Paul McCartney is #TheBeatles".
As for the song "Only One," it soon became a hot trend after West released it on iTunes just as the ball dropped during the New Year celebration on the East Coast of the United States. His wife Kim Kardashian then took to Twitter to praise the song, saying, "People always ask me what my favorite Kanye song is and it's 'Only One' because Kanye feels like his mom sang through him to our daughter North."
Kardashian also said she "cries every time I hear this song."
After the song was released, West also posted a photo of him and his daughter North West on his Twitter account.
Slate magazine, reporting on the song, stated that it just one of the many songs that West and McCartney collaborated on and that more tracks could soon be released.
