Kanye West Recants Grammy Comments About Beck
Rap artist Kanye West has recanted his rant against fellow artist Beck at the 2015 Grammys, when West said he believed Beyonce should have won Album of the Year.
West made a scene at the Sunday awards' show when he momentarily took the stage while Beck accepted the Best Album of the Year award for his record "Morning Phase." Although West did not speak on the microphone, he said in a post-Grammy interview that he felt Beyonce should have received the award for her self-titled album.
West's near-interruption was reminiscent of the 2009 MTV Music Awards, when he interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for "Best Female Video," saying Beyonce should have received the award.
"Beck is one of the nicest guys and one of the most respected musicians in the game," said West during Ryan Seacrest's syndicated talk show this week. "When I said that thing about respect artistry, I think it came off the wrong way and that was a miswording on my part. [...] Obviously Beck is one of the most respected artists, and respects artistry."
Another musical artist, John Legend, sought to distance himself from Kanye's Grammy rant, taking to Instagram to voice his support for both West and Beck.
"Beck is indeed a true artist's artist. He's a multi-instrumentalist, a creative and unique singer-songwriter whose music I have bought and enjoyed over the years. While his win may have been a surprise to many, it's not because he's not a great artist deserving of recognition," Legend wrote on Instagram.
