'Kong: Skull Island' new trailer, details and updates: Trailer showscases ecosystem of Skull Island
After the release of its teaser trailer a few days ago, a full-length trailer was debuted as promised on Wednesday, Nov. 16, on the "Jimmy Kimmel Live" show to give anticipating fans a good view of Skull Island.
The trailer did not disappoint — showing its ensemble cast and a few good action-packed scenes, including of course destruction caused by the legendary ape, King Kong.
The film is set in the 1970s, and stars Tom Hiddleston, a British SAS tracker, and Brie Larson, a war photographer, both of whom will fight for survival against the abominable ecosystem of Skull Island.
Along with Hiddleston and Larson, Samuel L. Jackson ("Django Unchained") also stars in the upcoming film, and fans can take a good look at him in the new trailer — sporting what looked like a military attire and some equipment.
Kong, meanwhile, can be seen towering over the rest of the island, and is definitely not in a good mood as he is seen ripping apart helicopters and terrorizing the island visitors.
"We sort of went back to the 1933 version in the sense that he's a bipedal creature that walks in an upright position, as opposed to the anthropomorphic, anatomically correct silverback gorilla that walks on all fours," director Jordan Vogt-Roberts explained in a past interview. He wanted to make sure that Kong is not merely an oversized ape, but a whole new species of his own as well. Vogt-Roberts also described him as a "morose figure, lumbering around this island."
Yet the characters in the film don't just have Kong to worry about, the trailer also gives a sneak peek to other oversized creatures in Skull Island, including what looked like a monstrous water buffalo and lizard-like creatures.
"Kong: Skull Island" is expected to hit theaters by March 10, 2017, and it is intended to lay down the foundations of a "Godzilla vs. Kong" movie, which is slated for a 2020 release.
