Series producer Eiji Aonuma has recently confirmed that the upcoming role-playing video game "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" will feature an alternate ending.

In an interview with IGN Portugal (as translated by Nintendolife), Aonuma did not delve into specific details, but he did go so far as to say that some gamers will get to see a slightly different ending.

"There is a certain criteria you have to fulfil to see it. Essentially, you do some specific things and you'll see a different ending," Aonuma explained.

Based on Aonuma's statement, it looks like "Breath of the Wild" will contain two different endings: the main ending and an alternate. Players would have to meet "certain criteria" in order to see the alternate ending, so it is expected that some secrets will be hidden across the game's vast world.

The criteria could be collecting a certain number of a special item or activating specific objects or landmarks. What is certain, however, is that fans will need to work hard to uncover all of the game's hidden secrets to access the alternate ending.

According to VG247, it would not be the first time that a "Legend of Zelda" game featured multiple endings, although the variations have always been subtle. For example, in "The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening," players that completed the game without ever dying got to see a glimpse at the nature of the game's world and learned the fate of a specific character.

In the upcoming game release, there are those who expect that "Breath of the Wild" might have a more impactful ending, considering the new directions it has taken the classic game franchise.

Aside from confirming the upcoming game's alternate ending, Aonuma also told IGN Portugal that Epona will also be appearing in "Breath of the Wild." However, he declined to share more details, including her location in the game.

"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is scheduled to launch on March 3 on the Wii U and the upcoming Nintendo Switch.
