"Girls" star Lena Dunham admits that her abortion remarks were "distasteful."

On her Instagram account, Dunham acknowledged that the statement that she said during her "Woman of the Hour" podcast was offensive, and she never really intended to upset anyone.

"My words were spoken from a sort of "delusional girl" persona I often inhabit, a girl who careens between wisdom and ignorance (that's what my TV show is too) and it didn't translate. That's my fault. I would never, ever intentionally trivialize the emotional and physical challenges of terminating a pregnancy," Dunham wrote in the caption of her Instagram post with the image of the word "Choice."

The actress got the ire of the public after saying that she has not experienced having an abortion, but she wished that she had one.

Netizens turned to social media to express their disappointments over Dunham's joke, saying that abortion is something that one should wish for herself. Others claimed that abortion is a very difficult choice, and it is not something that should be taken lightly.

Dunham also claimed that she only wanted to raise awareness about abortion, and to hopefully lessen the stigma for those who will choose to go on with it. She also revealed that she has a very serious stand regarding the reproductive choice in America, which is why she decided to talk about it in her podcast.

"My life is and always will be devoted to reproductive justice and freedom," the "Girls" creator also stated. She ended her lengthy Instagram post by asking her followers to donate to abortion organizations.

This is not the first time that Dunham experienced a public backlash due to her statements. In September, the actress accused NFL star Odell Beckham Jr. of ignoring her due to her looks. But she later on apologized and admitted that her statements are "unfair."
