LG G Flex 2 Release Date Set for Jan. 30 In Korea; No Issues Found With Snapdragon 810
LG plans to release the G Flex 2, its latest curved body phone, on Jan. 30 in South Korea where it will be priced at around 800,000 Won (approximately $737 USD).
It will be the first phone with the 64-bit Snapdragon 810 chipset. LG has announced that it own tests showed that the chipset did not overheat and that it performed well despite the difficult situations it was subjected to.
Speaking about the processor on the G Flex 2, Woo Ram-chan, an executive with LG mobile, said he was "aware of the concerns in the marketplace, but the chip's performance is quite satisfactory and in testing generated lesser heat compared to devices running older processors."
With this development, the release of the G Flex 2 is expected to go ahead smoothly throughout the world, including the U.S., after making its initial rollout in Korea, it has been no indication of how much the G Flex 2 will cost in the United States.
As for the details about the G Flex 2, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 will be coupled with an Adreno 430 GPU and 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM in Korea, while its international variant will have 3 GB of RAM. The smartphone has a 700mm-radius curvature on its 5.5-inch curved OLED 1080p display. Its self healing back panel has a 650mm-radius curvature to give it better grip. Its battery is a 3000mAh non removable version that is curved like the phone's body. At its rear it as 13-megapixel camera while in front is a 2.1-megapixel version.
Earlier in the month, several websites reported that the G Flex 2 was being offered at €599 on Amazon Germany. This price was thought to be pretty low for the smartphone with the latest Snapdragon 810 chipset. However, since then the pricing on the Amazon listing has changed to €649.
The price for the G Flex 2 is expected to be pegged at $737. Many sources said the price is comparable to what most major carriers charge for the flagship Galaxy Note 4 from Samsung, which is priced in the $700 to $750 range without a two-year contract.
