Los Angeles Lakers rumors 2016: Kevin Durant feels Lakers are not in high level yet
Kevin Durant knows that making a big decision comes with a lot of responsibility.
As far as the new Golden State Warriors star is concerned, he made the right decision but is open to answering inquiries about how his summer has transpired.
Silver Screen and Roll reported that Durant made himself available for questions during the Team USA practice and, as expected, there are a lot of questions surrounding his decision to move from the Oklahoma City Thunder to their Western Conference rivals, the Warriors.
However, the report singled out Durant's decision not to join the Los Angeles Lakers, the team that was strongly linked to him in the past season.
In a Twitter post shared by sports blogger Kurt Helin, Durant explained that he made the decision based on what he wants for his immediate future as a basketball star.
"I really respect their team, but I think they're a couple years away from where I want to be," Helin quoted him as saying.
Clearly, Durant wants to win a championship the soonest. This means he joined the former champions who have a two-time MVP in Stephen Curry and a bunch of stars ready to play their roles in Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
As for the Lakers, they still have a young core that they can work on. With the team recently drafting Brandon Ingram second in the NBA Draft, they have a lengthy player who is sometimes compared to Durant himself.
Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle and D'Angelo Russell are still with the team and are expected to mature as the season progresses, so the Lakers may not yet be in the level Durant is expecting, but on paper things look to be on the upward movement for LA.
And when that happens, it is completely possible that Durant will become a free agent again down the line and sign with the Lakers once the team's already peaked and prime for a playoff run.
