Los Angeles Lakers trade rumors 2016: Looking to Amir Johnson

Still looking to make some additions to their transitioning team, the Los Angeles Lakers are being linked to a move to acquire forward Amir Johnson from the Boston Celtics.

According to reports, Johnson seems like a likely target as he has an expiring contract and can definitely add some depth and experience to the Lakers bench.

Johnson signed a two-year deal worth $24 million with the Celtics back in 2015. He is set to make $12 million in the coming year but there is no indication for the Celtics to have any interest in extending that deal.

The 29-year-old has played for three teams in the league so far and has put up decent averages as he scores 7.6 points and grabs 5.8 rebounds in his 11 years in the league.

That is pretty decent given his limited time on the floor, as Johnson only averages around 22 minutes per game.

Given that the Lakers are pretty keen on spending big in the next summer, then adding some cheaper players for a steal should be beneficial for them. As for Johnson, if the Lakers are able to sign him, it could be great for the forward as he could act as a mentor to the young forwards of the team and could easily be one of the voices of the young squad off the bench.

The Lakers are still one of the many big teams linked to big names such as Oklahoma City Thunder's Russell Westbrook and Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers. While these players may be available in the next summer, the Lakers' decisions this year should help them be in a better position to sign these marquee players.

Since Kobe Bryant's departure, the Lakers are still looking to get that new superstar in the team to help them reach the heights the franchise is used to.
