Macy's stops donations to Planned Parenthood
The corporate watchdog group 2nd Vote has revealed last Wednesday that Macy's has stopped donating to Planned Parenthood.
"You may remember how four companies (AT&T, Coca-Cola, Ford, and Xerox) publicly distanced themselves from Planned Parenthood last year after our research exposed forty-one companies with direct financial ties to the abortion giant. At that time, another company on our list, Macy's, was making donations to Planned Parenthood," 2nd Vote said in a statement.
"However, Macy's confirmed with 2ndVote last week that the company no longer gives and no longer matches donations to Planned Parenthood," it added.
The group has previously released a list of companies that directly or indirectly support Planned Parenthood. Some of the corporations that directly fund the abortion giant include Adobe, ExxonMobil, Johnson & Johnson, Levi Strauss, Microsoft, PepsiCo, Pfizer, Starbucks, and Verizon. Many other companies support 3rd party groups that fund Planned Parenthood.
According to the group, over 25 percent of Planned Parenthood's $1.3 billion annual revenue comes from private donations which include contributions from corporations.
In July 2015, Macy's said that the company makes no direct donations to Planned Parenthood, but it matches the donations of its employees to any 501c3 organization.
"We are a company of 160,000 people, and we do match a small handful of gifts each year to Planned Parenthood organizations given that they are 501c3," the company told the Daily Signal.
Representatives from Coca-Cola, Ford Motor Co., and Xerox, denied contributing to Planned Parenthood and said that their companies have been incorrectly listed as donors. The representatives said that they have asked Planned Parenthood to remove their names from the donor list of the abortion provider.
In its score page for Macy's, 2nd Vote noted that the department store is a corporate partner of The Salvation Army, a pro-life organization and also a supporter of traditional marriage.
However, the score page also indicated Macy's representatives sit on the boards of the National Urban League, which believes that conservatives are using religious liberty as a guise to show bias against the LGBT community.
