A few days following the accident, Britney took to social media to ask her fans to pray for the safety and immediate recovery of her niece.
As reported by E! News, Jamie Lynn Spears' daughter reportedly drove an ATV into a pond in Louisiana, which left her trapped in the water. When she arrived at the hospital, she was already in critical condition.
Later on, the Spears family's representative released an official statement, informing the public about what happened to Maddie and how she is faring since the accident. The representative revealed that Maddie was now "awake and talking" to her family members who have stayed by her side since she was rushed to the hospital.
The statement reads: "With her father, mother and stepfather by her side, Maddie regained consciousness mid-day Tuesday, February 7. The 8-year-old daughter of entertainer Jamie Lynn Spears was involved in an ATV accident at a family home Sunday in Kentwood, La. Paramedics resuscitated her and she was airlifted to a local hospital. She is aware of her surroundings and recognizes those family members who have kept a round-the-clock vigil since the accident."
With her niece safe from further danger, Britney took to social media once again to thank her fans for their continued and unwavering support to her and her whole family amid the terrifying aftermath of the whole ordeal.
"We are so grateful to share that Maddie is making progress. Thank you all for sending thoughts and prayers our way. Let's all keep praying," Britney wrote on Instagram.
Although the young girl is now awake and talking, Maddie reportedly continues to receive oxygen and is still closely monitored by medical professionals. However, she has not shown any indications, so far, that she had suffered any neurological consequences from the ATV accident.
