'Major Crimes' season 5 spoilers: Team takes on case involving drug overdose in Hollywood; Series to end soon?
After taking on a case that almost ruined Los Angeles' tourism industry, the team had to take on a man who's gone on a shooting spree before he could kill more people. This time around, the Major Crimes Unit would tackle a case involving drug overdose in Hollywood, but viewers would have to wait until Aug. 15 before the episode airs.
Last Monday's episode titled "Moral Hazard" had the MCU putting out a citywide search for Elliot Chase (Jere Burns) after he went on a shooting spree. His reason for the outburst? His car was towed and getting it back required too much paperwork. Killing seemed to be the better and faster option for him to get his car back, so he went ahead and killed three people.
However, it was soon discovered that Elliot didn't really want his car back. What he wanted was the bag full of guns in the trunk of his car. Now his wife, Karen, and the police want to know why he has such. One gun would be easy to explain, but a bag full of assault rifles obviously mean Elliot has a plan up his sleeves.
Eventually, they found out that Elliot was plotting revenge against the mortgage brokers whom he thinks helped ruin his life. Unfortunately, before the MCU could apprehend him, he decided to take a suicidal dive off the balcony of his hotel room.
The eighth episode of "Major Crimes" season 5 would be titled "Off the Wagon," and it would have the MCU, particularly Lieutenants Andy Flynn (Tony Denison) and Mike Tao (Michael Paul Chan) dealing with the death of a young Hollywood star supposedly due to drug overdose. Apparently, several emotional discoveries would be unearthed in the process of investigating the death.
The episode's side story would see Rusty (Graham Patrick Martin), who had just reconciled with his biological mother, dealing with the news of his mother's pregnancy. How Rusty deals with this bump in his relationship with his mom could invoke bad memories of the past or it could make him desire a better life for his sibling.
Meanwhile, there are speculations that Lieutenant Louie Provenza (G.W. Bailey) is contemplating retirement. Fans have taken this to mean that the series would be coming to an end. According to Ecumenical News, only 13 episodes were initially ordered for "Major Crimes" season 5, but eight more episodes were added to extend the show, bringing the total to 21 episodes for the current season.
Now, fans are worried the additional episodes mean "Major Crimes" is the next to announce its end after TNT's highest rating series "Rizzoli & Isles" said the seventh season would be its last. Still, this should be taken with a grain of salt, considering the network hasn't made any formal announcements yet.
"Major Crimes" season 5 episode 8 will air on Monday, Aug. 15, 8 p.m. on TNT.
