'Marco Polo' season 3 air date, news & update: Benedict Wong to reprise his role
Despite the popularity of Netflix's highly acclaimed historical drama series "Marco Polo," the network has not yet confirmed if they will be renewing the show for another season. Because they're tight-lipped about the renewal of the TV series, fans are speculating the possibility of a cancellation.
Although it hasn't been confirmed, the delay in the announcement of the show's renewal is reportedly due to the hectic schedule of actor Benedict Wong, who portrays the ruler of the Mongol Empire Kublai Khan. However, recent reports suggest that the actor will continue to reprise his role for the third season of "Marco Polo."
Since Wong portrays one of the most notable characters in the show, aside from the titular character portrayed by Lorenzo Richelmy, the production team will reportedly work around his busy schedule.
For a compromise, the actor will have fewer scenes in the upcoming season. Leonard Wu, who portrays Orus in the show, is not expected to renew his role for season 3. The actor is currently working on a different project with James Cameron which will be titled "Alita Battle Angel."
Rumor has it that the Mongolian emperor will be spending most of his time in season 3 resting. Meanwhile, Empress Chabi (Joan Chen) will take over the country and lead its people. Other rumors suggest that the show could be gearing up for the death of the character. It is believed that season 3 will show Khan's health deteriorating.
If Netflix will renew "Marco Polo" for a third season, the titular character and Khan will finally face Prester John.
Since the network or the showrunners have yet to confirm the latest claims, fans of "Marco Polo" should treat the reports as speculation until proven otherwise.
Watch out for more updates on "Marco Polo" season 3.
