Mariah Carey New Album 2015 Release Date News: Album Could Be a Christmas Recording
Epic Records wants Mariah Carey to release another Christmas album.
Fifteen years after leaving her former record label, Mariah is returning to make a new album that will feature her reworked number 1 hits and duets.
Her first project with Epic under a new deal with Sony Music chief executive officer Doug Morris aims to promote her Las Vegas residency starting May 6.
The new album will also reunite Mariah with Antonio "L.A." Reid who produced her hit 2005 album "The Emancipation Of Mimi."
Now Epic also wants Mimi to work on another Yuletide release, according to the New York Post.
But while sources claim that Mariah's Christmas album is already a done deal, others argue that the songstress has made no such promises to record one just yet.
PerezHilton.com posted a statement from Mariah's reps who said there is no official word yet on the holiday-themed CD.
"Mariah begins her residency, Mariah Carey No. 1s, at Caesar's Palace on May 6. Mariah's first [Epic/Sony] release will be a collection of her 18 No. 1 self-penned hits with additional newly recorded material," the statement read.
In 1994, Mariah made her "Merry Christmas" album, which became the best-selling holiday album of all time.
But Mariah's recent efforts, including 2014's "Me. I Am Mariah," for Def Jam had a more subdued reception from music fans.
Released last year, Mariah's "The Elusive Chanteuse" became the lowest-selling album of her career.
Last January, the singer announced that she will be coming to The Colosseum at the Caesars Palace for two months this summer.
In a packed audience on "The Ellen De Generes Show," she stunned the audience members by giving them free tickets to her new show along with a hotel stay at Caesars Palace.
The announcement followed months of speculation about new acts coming to the Colosseum in the wake of Celine Dion's residency cancellation last summer.
Carey's new show is especially curated for The Colosseum and will consist of Mariah singing 18 of her No. 1 hits along with never performed songs and fan favorites. Mariah Carey is the best-selling female artist of all time with over 200 million in record sales to her credit.
The show will debut in Las Vegas on May 6, 2015, with eight more dates in May and nine in July.
