BioWare released a new cinematic trailer for the upcoming "Mass Effect: Andromeda" on Monday, Nov. 7.

The new trailer for the highly anticipated action role-playing video game, a mix of in-game and pre-rendered graphics, showed off some new elements, including space exploration and a new villain. Gamers also got take a closer look at Ryder, the male protagonist. Ryder is one of two playable characters in "Mass Effect: Andromeda." The other, his female twin, was showed off at E3 this year.

According to BioWare, more gameplay footage from "Mass Effect: Andromeda" will be unveiled at The Game Awards on Dec. 1.

Meanwhile, BioWare recently clarified that "Andromeda" is not the first part of a new "Mass Effect" trilogy. Because trilogies have become almost the norm in high-profile video game franchises, avid "Mass Effect" fans have assumed that the upcoming "Andromeda" will mark the start of a new trilogy for the popular spacefaring third-person shooter video game series. But according to "Mass Effect: Andromeda" director Mac Walters, this isn't the case.

In a recent interview with Game Informer, Walters said that "Andromeda" is meant to be self-contained.

"At the end of this, we want it to feel like a story has completed," he said. "Yes, for the universe, there's much more you could explore, and we want to tease that, but it feels like its own story. It's like, 'Great. I had my Ryder sibling becoming-a-hero story. What's next? Is it going to be Ryder? Is it going to be something else? Who knows?'," he added.

"Mass Effect: Andromeda" producer Michael Gamble declined to speak about the conclusion of the upcoming video game, saying that they want it to be a surprise. "This is a different type of story, so it will be something different than the trilogy," he said. "We can't wait to hear what fans think," he continued.

"Mass Effect: Andromeda" will be out in March 2017. Various retail listings point to a March 21 release date, but this remains unconfirmed.
