'Mass Effect: Andromeda' latest news: 'Andromeda' is not an open-world game, says producer
Last year, there are those who speculated that the upcoming video game, "Mass Effect: Andromeda" may be an open-world game. However, game producer Michael Gamble recently went on record to say that it is not.
"I definitely wouldn't call Andromeda an open-world game," Gamble said, according to GamesRadar.
"We like to use the term 'exploration-based game'," he explained. "You still have the concept of tight story deliverance and all the great things you come to expect with Mass Effect. The layer on top of that is a layer of exploration. Sometimes that happens in open spaces, but not always. You can cruise around some of these planets in the Nomad, but it's not the traditional sandbox-type game," the producer added.
According to GameSpot, based on Gamble's revelation, "Mass Effect: Andromeda" will be following the footsteps of the past "Mass Effect" games when it comes to structure. Previous games in the "Mass Effect" game franchise allowed players to explore large planets.
Moreover, "Andromeda" is not completely linear either. Hence, although the game will be giving players the freedom to explore environments, it is not an open-world game in the typical sense. This means gamers should not expect to play the upcoming video game like "Saint's Row," "Assassin's Creed," or "Grand Theft Auto."
Aside from Gamble's revelation, new screenshots from the video game have also recently emerged. The images showed off main character Sara Ryder and her father. The images also showed other people and aliens who will appear in the forthcoming "Mass Effect" game once it is released.
"Mass Effect: Andromeda" is scheduled to roll out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on March 21 in the United States and March 23 in Europe. The game is also set to undergo a multiplayer beta test, and the details of which are expected to be revealed soon.
