Michael Moore Says Jesus Wouldn't Condone Iraq War or Snipers
Continuing his criticism of the U.S. military, controversial documentarist Michael Moore recently argued that "Jesus wouldn't shoot people" or lead a war.
Moore has been in the media lately after he criticized the film "American Sniper" on Twitter, calling snipers who serve in the U.S. military "cowards" because they "shoot [you] in the back." The movie is an autobiographical look into the life of U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, now deceased.
The "Fahrenheit 9/11" director took to Twitter over the weekend to continue his tirade against the U.S. military.
"But What Would Jesus Do if he could be a sniper & save soldiers lives by shooting 'savages' in the back?" Moore questioned on Twitter, referencing a line in the movie in which Kyle, played by actor Bradley Cooper, describes jihadists as "savages."
"ANSWER: Jesus wouldn't put any soldiers lives in harm's way in the first place because he wouldn't have sent them 2 Iraq," Moore continued.
Moore previously received backlash from other celebrities, including country music singers Craig Moore and Blake Shelton, for his comments about the U.S. military.
Another celebrity to criticize the recent military-themed movie was comedian Seth Rogen, who likened the film to a Nazi propaganda movie.
The two celebrities have sparked such outrage that a Michigan steakhouse known as Brann's Steakhouse and Grille has set up its marquee to say that it bans the two celebrities from ever dining at the dinner establishment.
"Chris Kyle is an American hero and what he represents to me is the goodness of America and the people who defend it," Tommy Brann, owner of the restaurant, said in a statement.
"He was doing his job and he was doing it great. The remark was offensive, and if Chris Kyle was still alive he would handle Michael Moore in a minute. Chris Kyle's family, why do they have to hear it? To me, that's really hurtful."
