Michael Schumacher Coma Condition Latest Update News: Slowly Waking Up
Michael Schumacher is doing much better and waking up slowly, according to his son Mick Schumacher.
Speaking to noted F1 commentator Jean-Louis Moncet, Mick said his father has been showing signs of recovery, albeit slowly, since leaving the rehabilitation clinic in Lausanne, Switzerland. Schumacher stayed in the clinic for six months after coming out from a medically induced coma. He is now being cared for by a team of 15 medical personnel in a especially constructed medical suite at his mansion in Gland near Lake Geneva.
Previously, the 45-year-old former F1 world champion had shown little signs of progress after his skiing accident in December 2013.
However, current International Automobile Federation President Jean Todt, after visiting Schumacher recently, said he believes the ace driver could fully recover from his injuries and lead a relatively normal life.
As for Schumacher's son Mick who has also taken up racing, he finished second in the recently concluded German junior kart championships.
Meanwhile, while reporting on Schumacher's health, French journalist Jean-Louis Moncet stirred up a controversy when he mentioned that Schumacher's brain injury was caused by a GoPro camera that was attached to his helmet. Since then, Moncet has clarified the statement and noted that he was just stating his opinion.
Moncet made the clarifications on Twitter where he also denied that he had spoken to Mick Schumacher about the GoPro camera. He said in his conversation with Mick, neither of them actually mentioned the GoPro camera and how it could have contributed to Schumacher's injuries. However, Moncet's original statement was picked up by many news outlets and widely reported.
This eventually led to shares in GoPro falling as much as 16 percent in trading on the New York Stock Exchange. Since that slide, the company's shares have not recovered to the high of $96.45 when it was trading in September. Forbes is reporting that GoPro is contemplating on taking legal action against Moncet for making false accusations about their products.
