Michael Schumacher Health Latest News: Driver Tops Wealthiest Formula One List, Shows 'Encouraging' Recovery Signs
Seven-time champion Michael Schumacher, who is recovering from a skiing accident in December 2013, has topped the list of the wealthiest Formula One drivers of all time.
Schumacher is No. 1 on the list with an estimated net worth of $780 million, according to marketing and research firm Wealth-X.
The list was released in time for the 2015 Formula One Grand Prix.
The German ace driver is currently recovering and in rehabilitation after he suffered serious brain injury while skiiing in the French Alps in 2013.
Schumacher was said to be showing small signs of encouragement. "We are and remain confident that Michael will pull through and will wake up," his agent and spokeswoman Sabine Kehm said, according to Reuters.
"There sometimes are small, encouraging signs, but we also know that this is the time to be very patient," she added.
"Schumacher's wealth represents 43 percent of the combined net worth of all 10 men on the list, four of whom have retired from the sport," according to Wealth-X.
Spanish driver Fernando Alonso, a double World Champion who belongs to the McLaren team, is in second place with a net worth of $220 million.
Finnish Kimi Raikkonen and retired Eddie Irvine are in third and fourth places with $180 million each.
Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton, who opened the 2015 season with victory at last weekend's Australian Grand Prix, is in fifth place with a net worth of $110 million.
His Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg, who finished second in last year's world championship, is tenth with $30 million.
McLaren's Jenson Button is sixth with $100 million followed by retired driver Alan Prost with $70 million, retired David Coulthard with $70 million and 27-year-old Sebastien Vettel, the youngest driver on the list, with $45 million.
Schumacher is recovering at his home in Lake Geneva, Switzerland, after he was released from the hospital last September.
Early March, it was reported that burglars broke into the office of Schumacher's doctor, Johannes Peil, and took a laptop, raising concerns that the race driver's medical records could be exposed.
Along with the laptop, money, perfume and prescription forms were also stolen from the clinic in Bad Nauheim, Germany, according to the Daily Mail.
