Michael Schumacher health update: Medical bills weigh down on Schumacher family

Things don't seem to be turning up for Formula 1 racing legend Michael Schumacher.

It's been quite a while since the retired German race driver Michael Schumacher's skiing accident in December 2013, and though the F1 legend may have woken up from his six-month coma, Schumacher's condition remains a mystery to his fans.

Avid followers of Schumacher know, however, that right now, the seven-time F1 racing champion is currently undergoing intensive private rehabilitation and treatment in Switzerland after taking two operations and waking up from an induced coma due to brain damage.

Now, fans continue to pin their hopes on Schumacher's recovery as he reportedly weighs just around 45 kilograms and cannot walk on his own.

The source also reports that his family has been having a hard time keeping up with his medical expenses, indicating that the race legend is being attended by 15-member medical team composed of nurses, therapists and doctors in his home in Geneva.

With so many people to look after him, weekly medical bills can come up to $145,000 and reports have indicated that Schumacher's total bill from his very first procedure after the accident can amount to $15 million.

A few of Schumacher's assets have reportedly been sold to help secure the costs of his pilling medical bills, some of which allegedly include his holiday home and his private jet. Despite the difficulties however, his family is trying its best to keep together. Schumacher's wife has been managing his business while the racing driver continues to rehabilitate.

The family also continues to fight for Schumacher's privacy, suing publications that misinform the public about the state of the race champion's medical condition. The family had reportedly sued German magazine, "Bunte" for giving false hope to people by saying that Schumacher had made a miraculous recovery and that he was walking again.
