Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date, news, specs rumors: Next Surface Pro to be released this October with Intel Kaby Lake processor?
It has long been rumored that the successor of the Surface Pro 4 will be released in the later part of 2016. Now that the current year is up to its last quarter, Microsoft has remained silent amid the speculations of a Surface Pro refresh. Nevertheless, the latest rumors suggest that the unveiling of the Surface Pro 5 is actually happening this year, and it may happen sooner that anyone would expect.
According to International Business Times, the Redmond-based tech giant will be having a special press event in the last week of October, wherein they will finally present to the public the much-awaited Surface Pro device. Aside from the Surface Pro 5, Microsoft is also expected to unveil the first all-in-one Surface desktop PC.
Without any supporting reports coming from Microsoft itself, tech enthusiasts turn to the readily available specs rumors on the internet regarding the Surface Pro 5's features. Microsoft has enjoyed high market sales with the Surface Pro 4, as well as positive reviews from tech analysts. This would place Microsoft under pressure as many people are expecting the Surface Pro 5 to upstage its predecessor.
Some of the rumored specs of the Surface Pro 5 include a rechargeable Surface Pen and a USB Type-C port for faster data transfer and charging. The regular Surface Pro 5 is expected to have at least 16 GB RAM. It is also going to boast an impressive 4K screen display.
As per iDigital Times, the Surface Pro 5 will be among the first devices to use Intel's seventh generation processor called the Kaby Lake. It is expected to be much more powerful and efficient than the current Skylake processors, which will help the Surface Pro 5 to be a lot faster and power-efficient compared to the Surface Pro 4. The problem for now is that Intel has not yet finished shipping all the Kaby Lake chipsets, and the company is expected to complete the shipping until the end of this year. If Microsoft is going to stick with the Kaby Lake for the Surface Pro 5, then the rumored October reveal of the device will be postponed, iTech Post reported.
For now, it would be best to wait for Microsoft's official statement about the Surface Pro 5 and avoid giving too much credence to unconfirmed rumors.
