Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date, specs news & update: Updated Surface Pro 4 coming next month; successor to arrive next year instead
Microsoft is getting ready for a launch event in less than three weeks, but those who were hoping to see Microsoft Surface Phone will have to hold their horses.
The October affair will be focused on the Surface All-in-One personal computer (PC), which is a first for the Redmond-based software giant.
Although the PC will be the center of attraction, a Microsoft Surface Pro device will also be there, but in the form of a slight upgrade only as opposed to a successor.
Microsoft will be releasing an upgraded version of the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 with new and faster processors as well as some minor feature updates. This is according to Microsoft analyst Mary Jo Foley.
No specific changes have been noted, but it appears that Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be a complete no-show next month at the event or up to the end of the year for that matter.
The release of the updated Surface Pro 4 will help users of the hybrid get by the wait for the Microsoft Surface Pro 5, which will reportedly be released spring of next year.
The timing of the release will make of it a tough competition for Apple's iPad Pro 2, which is also set for release early this year.
With regards to the specs, fans can expect the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 to be powered by the Skylake, the newly released processor from Intel, and the strongest one as well.
On the display department, the upcoming Microsoft Surface Pro 5 should treat users with a crisp 4K Ultra High-Definition resolution display, which will make for bright and vivid visuals.
The two-in-one device is also expected to don a thinner build, two cameras (the one on the back with 16 megapixels and the selfie snapper with 8 megapixels.
The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 should be released next year with the Microsoft Surface Book 2.
