The wait for the release of Microsoft's next-generation Surface Pro 5 might soon be over, based on a new report.

Taiwanese website DigiTimes spotted a report from a Chinese-language newspaper Economic Daily News, claiming that Microsoft will release the latest version of its laptop-tablet in the first quarter of 2017.

According to the report, the new Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will come out with an ultra high-definition (HD) screen display and magnetic charging stylus. The report also mentioned that the device will be manufactured by Taiwanese electronics manufacturer, Pegatron Technology.

Also, the report claims that Microsoft is also planning to add another Taiwan-based manufacturer, Quanta Computer, to make the Surface Pro 5. Yet there are no reports that can confirm the said information.

Another report from Digital Trends claims that the plan to launch the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 actually makes sense since the tech firm is also planning to release the Creators Update for Windows 10 sometime in March. Some of the contents of the Creators Update had already been previewed, including the Paint 3D as well as the expanded support that will be needed for a mixed-reality experience.

Other speculated features of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 two-in-one device include the seventh-generation Kaby Lake core processor from Intel. This will make the device a worthy competitor of Apple's MacBook Pro because of its exceptional performance power.

Also, a previous report from the German Microsoft blog Dr. Windows claimed that the successor of the Surface Pro 4 will come out with an eSIM support just like the Surface Book 2. The eSIM is made to standardize the SIM cards in mobile devices found on the hardware.

The device is also expected to feature a USB-C support upon release. However, Microsoft has yet to confirm if the speculations about the release of the Surface Pro 5 are accurate. But the tech firm is expected to reveal more details about the device in the coming days.
