Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date, specs update: Laplet delayed to 2017 for additional upgrades

The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is expected to be released next month, a year after its predecessor was launched. However, Microsoft may be opting to delay it.

The Redmond software company has a couple of reasons not to release the 2-in-1 device next month, both of which for the betterment of the laplet.

For a start, Microsoft reportedly wants to wait for the Redstone 2 update for Windows 10. It was supposed to be rolled out this year, but was pushed back to spring 2017.

The features contained in this update appear to be vital for the improvement of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5, which is why the company decided to wait for it.

Apart from that, the Intel Kaby Lake processor has just been released, which means that Microsoft would not have begun the production of the hybrid device.

TechRadar points out that this makes a 2017 launch more likely than an October launch. A spring 2017 will also suit it, as the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 could clash with the iPad Pro 2 from Apple.

Although the laplet won't likely see the light of day next month, Microsoft will make sure October will not be free of new Surface Pro products.

According to Microsoft expert Mary Jo Foley, the company will release an updated version of the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 with newer processors "a couple other minor feature updates."

This suggests that Microsoft still wants to make sure users get upgraded iterations of the laplet to help them get by the long wait for the Microsoft Surface Pro 5.

This also implies that the tech giant has prepared massive upgrades for the next-generation hybrid. A rechargeable Surface Pen is just one these exciting enhancements.

If all these reports are to be believed, fans will lay their eyes on the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 by spring next year.
