GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee gained criticism over the weekend by suggesting that the recent U.S.-led deal on Iran's nuclear arms program is leading Israel "to the door of the oven."

Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas, made his controversial comments while speaking with Brietbart News on Sunday.

"This president's foreign policy is the most feckless in American history. It is so naive that he would trust the Iranians. By doing so, he will take the Israelis and march them to the door of the oven," Huckabee said.

"This is the most idiotic thing, this Iran deal. It should be rejected by both Democrats and Republicans in Congress and by the American people. I read the whole deal. We gave away the whole store. It's got to be stopped," the GOP hopeful added.

Huckabee's comments have received criticism from those who argue the politician went too far in referencing the Holocaust when discussing Israel.

While speaking from Ethiopia on Monday, President Barack Obama said Huckabee's comments were part of a "pattern" of comments from GOP contenders that "would be considered ridiculous if it weren't so sad."

Rep. Deborah Wasserman-Schultz (D-Fla.), head of the Democratic National Committee, asked Huckabee to apologize following his remarks ,saying that making "cavalier analogies" to the Holocaust was unacceptable.

"This rhetoric, while commonplace in today's Republican presidential primary, has no place in American politics," she said.

Other politicians along with Huckabee has remained critical of the recent deal reached between Iran and the U.S. over the Middle Eastern country's nuclear arms production, arguing that Iran is not to be trusted and will develop nuclear arms despite the deal.
