'Minecraft' Boss update release date: New bosses, items and Slash Commands teased
The highly-anticipated Boss update is coming to both the "Minecraft Pocket Edition" and "Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta."
Owen Hill of "Minecraft" developer Mojang revealed this new feat in a new blog post, noting that the "tricky" feat has always been a challenge to pull off the mobile version of the hit sandbox game.
The Boss update for "Minecraft Pocket Edition" and "Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta" will introduce "some of the most ferocious mobs we've ever devised."
"We're calling it The Boss Update because it includes bosses, is "boss" in nature, and is in charge of hiring and firing all the other updates released so far," Hill noted.
One of the featured boss for the "Minecraft Pocket Edition" and "Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta" Boss update is the Elder Guardian, whose territory comes in the form of underwater ocean monuments.
He has what Hill described as "an army of minions while shooting lazers." Joining them is Wither, "a three-headed spookster" with the ability to spurt blue skulls.
Players who defeat them will get "rare loot" such as sponges and Nether Stars, all of which provide benefits to "Minecraft Pocket Edition" and "Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta" players.
Although the update will be all about the new and intimidating foes to tackle, it will also include "ocean monuments and the trinkets to explore them" as part of the addition of the underwater monster that is Elder Guardian.
Hill also made mention of Boss update goodies such as new blocks, beacons as well as 20 new Slash commands, which allow players to change things around in terms of gameplay.
With these commands, players can give items away, change the time of the day and even summon mobs. There will be more to come from Mojang.
With regards to the release date, Hill said that the Boss update for "Minecraft Pocket Edition" and "Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta" will be available "soon-ish" while Android players can try it out via beta.
