'Mission: Impossible 6' release date news: Sixth 'Mission: Impossible' film drops summer 2018
"Mission: Impossible 6" will hit theaters on July 27, 2018.
On Tuesday, Nov. 8, Paramount Pictures announced that it had scheduled the next installment of the lucrative "Mission: Impossible" franchise for the same July slot in which it launched "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" in 2015.
"Mission: Impossible 6" was first announced by franchise star Tom Cruise in July last year, around the same time that the fifth installment came out. His pronouncement was endorsed by Paramount following the film's massive commercial success both in the U.S. and abroad.
In April this year, Cruise appeared at Cinemacon, where he revealed that the next "Mission: Impossible" film will have "more incredible set pieces, stunts... and what I (Cruise) think is a very entertaining and compelling story."
In August, it was reported that pre-production on the upcoming film has been halted following a possible dispute between Cruise and Paramount Pictures. According to reports, the interruption may have been brought about by Paramount's request for Cruise and production companies Skydance and Bad Robot to lower their fees in a bid to decrease the overall budget for the film.
Prior to this setback, Paramount had reportedly set the "Mission: Impossible 6" release date for January 2017.
In September, Cruise closed the deal for "Mission: Impossible 6." Christopher McQuarrie, who helmed the previous installment, wrote the script for "M:I 6" and will also direct. McQuarrie is reportedly developing the script with Cruise.
Aside from Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, who was introduced as the undercover agent Ilsa Faust in "Rogue Nation," will star in "Mission: Impossible 6." "Rogue Nation" actors Ving Rhames (Luther Stickell), Simon Pegg (Benji Dunn) and Jeremy Renner (William Brandt) are also expected to reprise their roles.
While the "Mission: Impossible" franchise has previously benefitted from summer releases, it's worth noting that another highly anticipated film, DC Entertainment's "Aquaman" starring Jason Momoa, will also debut on July 27, 2018.
