Morrissey Announces Battle With Cancer
The musical artist Morrissey announced this week that he is suffering from cancer, shortly after he canceled a tour of the United States in June.
While the artist and former lead singer of The Smiths has been suffering from a variety of medical issues for the past several years, he has never confirmed a specific illness until a recent interview with Spanish publication El Mundo, in which Morrissey admitted to having cancer.
"They have scraped cancerous tissues four times already, but whatever," he said, as translated by The Guardian.
"If I die, then I die. And if I don't, then I don't. Right now I feel good. I am aware that in some of my recent photos I look somewhat unhealthy, but that's what illness can do. I'm not going to worry about that, I'll rest when I'm dead."
Morrissey also pointed out that at age 55, he has been performing longer than several classical artists who died at younger ages. He said that if he were to die, "With luck I will be able to stop singing forever, which would make many people happy!"
"I have reached the age where making music is meant to be over [...] as in finished with [...] so many classical composers were dead at 34."
"So, I am still here, and nobody knows what to do with me, and a lot of people still want to listen to me," the artist added.
Morrissey is famous for such songs as "Every Day Is Sunday" and "Suedehead."
