Moto G5 Plus release date, specs rumors: leaked prototype reveals upcoming device's design and full specs
The Moto G4 Plus is still a few months away from turning a year old but its successor, the Moto G5 Plus, has already seemingly been leaked online.
The Moto G5 Plus was recently spotted in a listing on OLX, an online marketplace in Romania. The person who posted the listing published several photos that revealed the upcoming device in its entirety — both in terms of design and technical specifications. While the listing has since been removed, several outlets managed to save copies of the images.
The device in focus has already seen its fair share of leaks and renders last year but tech enthusiasts had expected it to be released as the Moto X (2017). Nevertheless, based on the leaked images, the Moto G5 Plus still features Motorola's current design language. It also has new features including an oval-shaped fingerprint sensor and an oval camera bump on the rear panel.
Based on the leak, the Moto G5 Plus will feature a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1080 pixels and will be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor. It is said to have 4 GB of random-access memory (RAM) with 32 GB of built-in storage. There is also a microSD card slot for expanded memory.
Other notable features include a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel (MP) front camera and a 3,080 mAh battery. The device is also preinstalled with the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system. The Moto G5 Plus was listed with a price of RON 1,650, which is about $387.
While Motorola has not confirmed that the leaked device is indeed the Moto G5 Plus, there is a high probability that it is indeed a legitimate prototype. According to Reddit user sjchoking, Motorola has been asking its clients to test prototypes of the upcoming device. They usually ask participants to sign non-disclosure agreements which the person who leaked the device most likely violated.
The Moto G5 Plus is rumored to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this February.
