According to the latest rumors, the next iteration of the Moto X smartphone will be released next year. In fact, leaked images of the new Moto X handset have been circulating online, further supporting the idea of the device's 2017 release.

A leaked roadmap for the future Motorola smartphones has surfaced online just recently, showing at least six new Moto handsets scheduled for release in 2017. One of the six Moto brands expected to arrive next year is the 2017 Moto X. Moreover, additional details pertaining to the upcoming Moto devices suggest that the Moto X series will be managed by Lenovo, Neowin reported.

Tech Droider's list reveals the future Moto devices such as Moto C, Moto E, Moto G, Moto M, Moto Z, and Moto X all geared up for the coming year. Among these six handsets, the Moto Z and Moto G will be spearheaded by to Motorola company, while the rest of these handsets, including the new Moto X, will be handled by Lenovo. To note, Lenovo has purchased the Motorola company, although the company's existing devices will still be carried out under the Motorola Mobility banner.

The leaked images of the upcoming Moto X show the device still having its all-metal appearance. Other leaked photos posted by Trusted Reviews reveal the Moto X 2017 having a front-mounted fingerprint sensor. The Moto X 2017 is expected to sport a 5.2-inch screen display and special camera features such as camera sensor and dual LED flash.

As for the core specs of the new Moto X handset, it is expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset with 4 GB RAM. This information came from previous benchmark results posted on Geekbench, where a particular handset with the XT1650 identifier was analyzed. The XT1650 is believed to be the 2017 Moto X version. Furthermore, the device is expected to run in the 64-bit version of Android Marshmallow.
