'Mr. Robot' season 2 news: Show strives for authenticity, takes on hacker as technical adviser
Kor Adana has a big role for "Mr. Robot" season 2 — he has been taken on as its technical adviser to ensure that the show will present its story accurately. Adana is in the know when it comes to the intricacies of hacking, and it's his job to make sure that whatever hacking Rami Malek's Elliot does on the show, it will be done with all authenticity possible, from the computer display, the software, and down to the codes used.
"Mr. Robot's" technical adviser is a former white hat hacker as well as security analyst, and the position is the first of its like ever thought up in television series-making. Adana admits his work is quite stressful and that he has had to haunt message boards and forums just to make sure the show maintains a plausible and realistic performance.
"I research hacks and figure out exactly what Elliot (Rami Malek) would be doing at his computer and what would be seen onscreen, what kind of software he would have, and what commands he would use," Adana shared.
"I don't think this position has really existed before in television," he added. "So it's an interesting place to be."
It makes sense that a show like "Mr. Robot" would care so much about being called out on Reddit or poked fun at over Twitter. With a Golden Globe to its name for Best Television Series, showrunner Sam Esmail is taking it one step higher by making sure Elliot does his hacking right. It may be more than just having others notice. It could be in the interest of the show appearing more credible to its audience.
It must make the show's fans feel so much better at seeing a consistent reflection of realities happening in real life on their favorite show, because this is also one sign that the next season is to be taken seriously.
To take the trouble, the showrunner and producers must have something big planned for the next season, although not much detail has been released.
"Mr. Robot" season 2 will be focusing on Elliot's efforts in revealing E-Corp's financial secrets to the globe. Fans can expect to see more of him in his signature black hoodie and get all the hacking on point in the upcoming season.
