Nancy Pelosi Defends Obama Administration After Texas Judge Blocks Immigration Order
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has spoken out in support of the Obama administration after a federal judge in Texas blocked the Commander-in-Chief's executive order on immigration.
Pelosi said in a statement to reporters that she fully stands behind the lawfulness of the president's executive orders to protect thousands of illegal immigrants from deportation out of the U.S.
Earlier this week, Texas federal judge Andrew Hanen issued a ruling that would temporarily block the president's executive action, giving states that oppose the immigration reform time to file a lawsuit against the Obama administration.
Hanen said in his opinion that: "The court finds that the government's failure to secure the border has exacerbated illegal immigration into this country."
"Further, the record supports the finding that this lack of enforcement, combined with the country's high rate of illegal immigration, significantly drains the states' resources."
The White House then released a statement standing behind the president's actions and confirming they "are well within [the president's] authority."
Pelosi followed up on the White House's argument, saying in her statement that "every president since Eisenhower has used his authority to refine our immigration system."
"How sad for our impacted 'Dreamers' and their families, how necessary it is for an immediate appeal of this ruling," Pelosi added, referencing the illegal immigrants who have lived in the U.S. for decades.
The Department of Justice has already confirmed that it will appeal Hanen's ruling.
"I am confident such an appeal will succeed," Pelosi added.
