'Narcos' season 2 news, spoilers: New season drops Sept. 2; will conclude Pablo Escobar's story

When it returns in September, Netflix crime thriller "Narcos" will put an end to the story of Pablo Escobar, its version of the late real-life Colombian drug lord played in the series by Brazilian actor Wagner Moura.

The end of the Escobar storyline was hinted at in the season 2 trailer recently released by Netflix. In it, Moura's Escobar is shown along with three significant dates. The first date, December 1, 1940, is Escobar's birthdate. December 2, 1993, the second date, was the day Escobar died. The third date, September 2, 2016, is when "Narcos" season 2 debuts on Netflix.

Taken together, the three dates seemed to indicate that the story of Escobar's life will be wrapped up in the upcoming season. This was later confirmed by Moura in an interview with Chelsea Handler.

"It's all about Pablo on the run," Moura said during an appearance on Handler's new Netflix talk show "Chelsea" earlier this month. "It's from the day Pablo escapes to his death."

The first season of "Narcos" spanned the 10 years in Escobar's life in which he went from being a small-time smuggler to one of the world's most feared drug kingpins.

In an interview with iDigital Times, "Narcos" music composer Pedro Bromfman talked about Escobar, saying, " [Escobar] originally... wanted to help the poor, and he just went into this egomaniacal spin that took him as he started getting involved with drugs and getting rich and more powerful."

"He just thought he could do anything he wanted, and he forgot what he originally wanted to do, or thought he wanted to do," Bromfman said. "He's sort of our hero, but our anti-hero at the same time."

Netflix has not confirmed if "Narcos" will have a future beyond season 2. Entertainment Weekly suggested that the show could introduce a new storyline, as horror anthology "American Horror Story" does, with a different drug kingpin or organization at its center.

"Narcos" season 2 debuts Sept. 2 on Netflix.
