The "Road to Boruto" expansion, the final DLC (downloadable content) for the Bandai Namco fighting video game "Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4," was announced at the Tokyo Game Show 2016 this week.

In the manga and in the anime, Naruto's son Boruto has grown to become a young hero who has steadily taken on the legacy of his father.

According to Gematsu, the game will introduce new playable characters, including Boruto and Sanada, who will be free to use both online and offline. In addition, the expansion will feature a story that follows Boruto's adventures into new places such as the Hidden Leaf Village. It will also showcase the battle between Kinshiki and Sasuke.

"Road to Boruto" will follow the events in 2015's "Boruto: Naruto the Movie." At the Tokyo Game Show, Bandai Namco promised that the upcoming expansion will be the best game in the series thus far. According to Polygon, a representative of the video game developer said that while "Road to Boruto" is an expansion, it will still offer "a huge volume of content."

"We've been developing the 'Naruto: Ultimate Ninja' series for 15 years since the first one," the representative told Polygon during a presentation at the Tokyo Game Show. "In total, the series has sold 15 million copies. 'Ultimate Ninja Storm 4' has sold two million worldwide. This one is going to be the last one in the series, so we've poured all our efforts into it," the rep added.

"Road to Boruto" will be made available in two ways. New players who don't have "Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4" can buy a full-price version of the game that includes the original release of "Ultimate Ninja Storm 4," its DLC packs, and "Road to Boruto." Meanwhile, those who already own "Ultimate Ninja Storm 4" can purchase a digital-only version of the new expansion at a cheaper price of $19.99.

The upcoming expansion, which will continue the story of Boruto will be made available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Feb. 3, 2017.
