'Nashville' season 5 news: Hayden Panettiere returns; two new cast members added
The new teaser trailer for "Nashville" season 5 has confirmed that Juliette Barnes, played by Hayden Panettiere, is alive.
The promo, which was released earlier this week, teases the upcoming drama in the fifth season of the country musical premiering on CMT, its new network, in January.
The new promo is a welcome treat for fans who have been wondering about Juliette in the months since the season 4 finale aired. Juliette's fate was left in question at the end of the previous season when her plane lost radio contact and went off the radar.
The uncertainty about Panettiere's return was fueled by the fact that the "Nashville" actress briefly left the musical drama in season 4 to seek treatment at a rehab facility for postpartum depression following the birth of her daughter in December 2014.
But it now looks like Panettiere is back for good and Juliette will be alive and well in the highly anticipated season 5 premiere.
"We all break — that's what makes us human," Connie Britton, who plays Rayna James, says in the new footage.
"We tape ourselves together so that no one can see our flawed hearts," Panettiere adds.
Panettiere and Britton appear in the dramatic teaser alongside "Nashville" co-stars Charles Esten (Deacon Claybourne), Chris Carmack (Will Lexington), Sam Palladio (Gunnar Scott), Clare Bowen (Scarlett O'Connor), and Lennon Stella (Maddie Conrad).
"I've left a trail of destruction, hurt people I've loved, let down the people who love me," Esten says in the clip.
"Nashville" was cancelled by ABC this year after four seasons but the series was saved by CMT, which gave it a fifth season. Hulu has partnered with the network on the series, which means that after the "Nashville" episodes air, they will be made available for streaming online.
When "Nashville" season 5 debuts, there will be at least two new faces in the musical's cast. CMT recently announced that it has cast "Allegiant" actor Joseph David-Jones and "Person of Interest" alum Cameron Scoggins in recurring roles. David-Jones will play the role of young musician Clay while Scoggins will play Silicone Valley billionaire Zach Welles.
"Nashville" season 5 premieres with a special two-hour episode on Jan. 5 at 9 p.m. EDT on CMT.
