NBA trade rumors 2016: Boston Celtics looking at Jimmy Butler, Russell Westbrook?

The Boston Celtics have been one of the more busy teams in the NBA this off-season as they try to get big names to continue their resurgence as a strong team in the league.

They already made a move to acquire former Atlanta Hawks star Al Horford in a four-year $113 million deal that immediately gives them a star big man who can score from almost anywhere in the court.

However, they are still missing a few pieces as they still have a young core and should still be developing as an Eastern Conference powerhouse.

They tried to remedy that by making a realistic bid to land Kevin Durant, but with the superstar forward choosing the Golden State Warriors, the Celtics find themselves in a hole.

Considering that the biggest free agent is off the market now, the Celtics still have some hope and they should still try to find someone who can make the team better.

According to NESN, the Celtics are looking to get Chicago Bulls' star Jimmy Butler to join the team.

As the leader of the Bulls, Butler seems to be running out of teammates he was with just a season ago as Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah have already bolted to the New York Knicks while Pau Gasol has agreed to play with the San Antonio Spurs.

With that in mind, the Bulls may be making their way to a full rebuild and try to offload Butler as soon sa possible.

The Celtics may take advantage of this and swoop in for the two-way player.

On the other hand, missing out on Durant may lead the Celtics to try getting his former teammate, Oklahoma City Thunder superstar guard Russell Westbrook.

With the departure of Durant, the Thunder are now looking to try and extend Westbrook's contract to keep him for a long time, or they should try to trade him now to get pieces as his replacement.

Sportrageous reported that the Celtics are willing to let go of a number of players in order to get Westbrook, and if the Thunder do not get a deal with their guard, the Celtics just might see this offer through.

These are all speculations at the moment and nothing is set in stone, but for the Celtics, missing out on Durant may be the best thing that has happened to them this summer.
