NBA trade rumors: Cleveland Cavaliers and Wolves may have trade at hand

On the floor, there are few things that can disrupt the Cleveland Cavaliers from winning and the proof lies in their unbeaten start to the season.

In their first games, the Cavaliers have beaten two Eastern Conference rivals and are looking like the defending champions who are not ready to relinquish their crown.

However, off the court the Cavs are one of the most expensive teams and they may be trying to let go of a few players in order to avoid paying a lot of taxes.

According to rumors, Iman Shumpert's name is again involved in trade talks with the Minnesota Timberwolves as one of the teams linked to the versatile shooting guard.

The Cavaliers may let go of Shumpert and the Wolves may bring in point guard Tyus Jones as the trade piece.

This could be a very interesting deal if it falls through as the Cavaliers are actually short on point guards. Having Jones is a great choice to back up Kyrie Irving.

Jones is entering his second year and averaged 4.2 points and 2.9 assists per game in 37 appearances for the Wolves last year.

However, he seems to have fallen down the pecking order as Ricky Rubio is still the Wolves' top guard and Kris Dunn may have overtaken Jones as the second option.

Furthermore, Jones is way cheaper than Shumpert as Jones is only in his rookie contract.

On the other hand, Shumpert is being paid around $9.7 million this year. His contract jumps in price next year where he is set to take home over $10 million.

For someone who comes off the bench, he is one of the highest paid players and with J.R. Smith in the line-up, the Cavs can actually do without Shumpert.

If this deal falls through, it would be beneficial for both teams as Shumpert can help the young Wolves franchise and the Cavs would benefit from having a better point guard rotation.
