'NCIS' season 14 news: Show not canceled, already renewed for season 15 with Mark Harmon returning
"NCIS" season 14 will reportedly be the final season of the most watched drama. The latest rumor is that lead actor Mark Harmon will be following the footsteps of Michael Weatherly.
There is no information to corroborate the rumors, though. Harmon, like Weatherly, was on the show since its inception and has in the past gushed about his love for the show.
In the midst of season 13 of "NCIS," Harmon actually signed a two-year deal with NBC, which then renewed the show for two seasons.
This means that the show will continue beyond "NCIS" season 14 and Harmon will be there to reprise his role as Agent Gibbs. The show will be around at least up to 2018 although there is no word on the show's fate after season 15.
"It's extraordinary that in its 13th season and with over 300 episodes to its credit, 'NCIS' continues to excel at such a high level on a global scale," CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller said in a statement when the renewal was announced early this year.
"It is testimony to an amazing cast, led on and off the screen by the exceptional Mark Harmon, for skillfully bringing this universally appealing team of heroes to life; and to Gary Glasberg and his writers for crafting compelling stories that feature 'NCIS's' signature blend of mystery, quirk, drama and comedy every single week," he added.
With that said, "NCIS" season 14 will not be the show's last although depending on the circumstances, season 15 might be the end as CBS is yet to outline its plans for the show beyond that.
Although the ratings continue to fluctuate, "NCIS" remains deserving of the title as most watched drama, which means that almost a decade and a half since it debuted, it is yet to lose its flair.
For now, fans will not have to worry about Agent Gibbs joining Agent DiNozzo (Weatherly) in retirement.
