There's nothing better than beginning the brand-new year on a superhero binge, and Netflix has its subscribers covered as it rings in the brand new year with the release of the "Superman" movies that hit the theaters long before the DC Extended Universe was conceived. From the four-part Christopher Reeve starrers to the more recent years' "Superman Returns," the Man of Steel takes top helm in Netflix's January 2017 movie offerings.

In 1978, back when comic book movie adaptations were few and far in between, Richard Donner's "Superman" quickly became a worldwide hit among comic book and non-comic book fans alike. Now, Netflix brings the saga back in a more accessible way as it releases parts 1 to 4 of Donner's "Superman" movie series, which catapulted actor Reeve to iconic superstardom.

The online streaming service also brings Bryan Singer's homage sequel "Superman Returns" along as an added bonus. The said movie introduced Brandon Routh as the new Man of Steel to a new generation of moviegoers. Even though "Superman Returns" may have failed to match the success of its predecessors, it is still regarded by some as a legitimate part of the pre-DCEU "Superman" saga.

Aside from superheroes, the streaming giant also covers the bases for comedy, horror, and sci-fi movie enthusiasts. Stanley Kubrick's classic take on Stephen King's horror novel "The Shining" also comes to Netflix, along with Steven Spielberg's timeless classic "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial."

"Caddyshack," the '80s comedy movie that brought together comic geniuses like Bill Murray, Chevy Chase and Rodney Dangerfield also graces Netflix in January 2017, as well as another comic book adaptation, "V for Vendetta," which is a political thriller set in a dystopian world.

All of these aforementioned movies are available on Netflix beginning Sunday, Jan. 1. Click here for a full list of movies and when they will start streaming on Netflix.
