'New Girl' season 6 spoilers: creator teases Jess-Nick reunion
After having left off on a very interesting season 5 finale, fans of the Fox sitcom "New Girl" are eager to find out how events will unfold in the upcoming season 6.
In an interview with Wet Paint, Hannah Simone, who plays Cece, admitted that she has no clue about what happens in season 6 and said that she is just as excited as everyone else to see what "New Girl" creator Liz Meriwether and the show's writers have in store.
"I have no idea!" the actress said. "Later this summer we will head back to shoot season 6 and find out what Liz Meriwether has in store for this newlywed couple. I can't wait to find out!"
The show's season 5 finale, which aired last month, saw Cece and Schmidt (Max Greenfield) finally tying the knot in an emotional and intimate wedding in the group's loft after the groom got stuck at the airport and missed the original wedding. The season 5 ender also hinted at a possible future for the long-simmering romance between Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson).
The two-part finale, which consisted of episodes "Wedding Eve" and "Landing Gear," found Sam (David Walton) breaking up with Jess and Jess subsequently realizing that she still has feelings for Nick. Unfortunately, the finale also saw Nick getting back together with Reagan (Megan Fox).
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Meriwether talked about reentering the romantic storyline between Jess and Nick more than three years after the two characters drifted apart.
According to the "New Girl" boss, who called the Jess-Nick relationship "the heart of the show," they are "trying to figure out a way to reintroduce the dynamic but in a new way."
"I think we're going back into that story area, but hopefully with growth for both characters and a new dynamic that will be still give us some tension between them," she explained.
"New Girl" season 6 debuts Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 8:30 p.m. ET on Fox.
