'New Mutants' release date, news: Anya Taylor-Joy would love to do the film; James McAvoy may return as Charles Xavier
It's been known for a while now that "The Fault in Our Stars" director Josh Boone has been tapped by 20th Century Fox to put together a "New Mutants" movie, but so far, the studio has yet to name the cast for the film. "The Witch" actress Anya Taylor-Joy's name has been linked to the project for months now, but nothing has been confirmed as of the moment. Well, that did not stop her from talking about the upcoming film and how she would love to be in it.
"I think I would love to do it, but that's just because it's something I haven't experienced before. I'm constantly looking for new experiences and that would be a new experience," Taylor-Joy told IGN (via Screen Rant).
In an interview with ComingSoon, she also said she would love to be part of the project, and she thought the Demon Bear animatic was "pretty cool." When she was asked about the possibility of reuniting with her "Split" co-star James McAvoy, she said, "I mean, I think James is already a part of it, isn't he?"
Interesting reply. Of course, it should be noted that Taylor-Joy probably hasn't signed on to star in the film yet, which would explain why she kept on saying that she would love to be part of it. So, readers are advised to take this with a little pinch of salt for now.
Fans would love to see McAvoy return as Professor Charles Xavier, and the actor has stated that he's willing to reprise his role.
"If they offer me a really good part, I'm in! If it's not a really good part ... I'll think about it. [laughs] But I love playing Charles, and I've always had pretty interesting things to do as Charles. So, if that continues, then, yeah of course I'd love to take part," McAvoy said (transcribed by Screen Rant) in a video posted by Fandango's Erik Davis.
ComingSoon has reported that "New Mutants" is slated for a spring 2018 release.
